Synthesis
Born in Naples on 16 March 1961, he attended high school in Naples and Treviso. At the age of 18 he undertook his first journey in North Africa in order to discover the religious and cultural roots of the Mediterranean world.
He studied with Umberto Eco e Claudio Meldolesi and graduated cum laude in DAMS (Disciplines of Art, Music and Show Business), Faculty of Literature and Philosophy, in the University of Bologna on 7 July 1986, with a thesis on the sociology of theatre in the XIX century culture of Naples.

From 1989 al 1991 he is artistic consultant of the Milan Fair for the first two editions of the Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea (Milan Contemporary Art Fair).
From 1991 to present curator of contemporary art exhibitions.
From January 1995 he began to collaborate on Islamic Philosophy and Law with the Faculty of Law of the University of Naples “Federico II”.
In 1995 he was the coordinator of the group of Muslim experts and jurists of La Sapienza University of Rome and the Federico II University of Naples who worked on the project for an agreement between the state and the Islamic community in Italy, and on the constitution of religious, educational, and financial structures relating to the world of Islam.
In 1996 he coordinated a team of Italian Muslim educationalists who were organizing refresher courses for teachers in collaboration with the regional Provveditorato agli Studi (Education Superintendency) of Milan and the IRRSAE (Istituto Regionale per la Ricerca, Sperimentazione and Aggiornamento Educativo [Regional Institute for Educational Research, Experimentation and Updating]).
Since 1997 he has been a lecturer on history and law in Islam in the course on Islamic history and religion at the UNITRE (Università della Terza Età)in Milan and he has given numerous lectures on the same subject all over Italy.
From 1997 to 2002 he gave lectures and seminars at the University of Bologna, the Federico II University of Naples, the University of Palermo, the Sacro Cuore Catholic University of Milan, La Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Catania.
In June 1999 he was sent as an official representative of Italy for the eleventh general conference of the Supreme Council of the Islam Affairs of Egypt, which was organized by the Egyptian government and the al-Azhar University. On this occasion, he was officially invited by the president, ‘Umar Hashem, to start academic collaboration with the Islamic University of al-Azhar, Cairo.
At the beginning of 2000 he gave an experimental seminar on Islamic Law at the Istituto di diritto canonico ed ecclesiastico (Institute of Canonical and Ecclesiastical Law) of the Federico II University of Naples, the first example in Italy of collaboration between a university and a European Islamic institutions. After that he was invited by Mario Tedeschi to teach at the Department of Ecclesiastical Law in the Law Faculty of the University of Naples Federico II, dealing with Islamic Law and Sociology of Religion.
In the academic year 2000-2001 he start teaching History and Law of the Islamic civilization in the Department of Philosophy of Human Rights and Religious Freedom of the Federico II University of Naples,.
From 2005 to 2009 he taught as the new chair of Laws of the religions (Diritti confessionali), which he had helped to establish.
In March 2006 he was invited as expert by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODHIR) of the OSCE to the Roundtable Meeting on “Representation of Muslims in Public Discorse” in Warsaw.
In the October 2006 he was invited by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) to the “ECRI Expert Seminar on combating racism while respecting freedom of expression” in Strasbourg.
In November 2006 he was invited to partecipate to the project of the Hudson Institute of Washington, Countering Islamist Extremism in Europe: tolerant integration.
In 2006 he was among the founders of the journal Law and Religion, directed by Mario Tedeschi, together with the sociologist Gregory Kaczynski.
In February 2007 he became cultural consultant in the Senate of the Italian Republic, where he also coordinate the activities of the Department for Interreligious Dialogue.
In November 2007 he became professor of “Aesthestic of Eastern Religions” in the Accademia di Belle Arti (Fine Art Academy) of Catania.
From November 2008 is consultant at the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Italian Senate.
From January 2009 to end 2010 is head of the external relations of the Unione Forense per la tutela dei diritti dell'uomo.
Since 2010 he inaugurating the first chair of Sociology in the Italian Academies of Fine Arts.
Since 2013 he has been co-manager of the Catanese Academy Contemporary Art Fund.
March 2014, reviser of the international review Hemispheres, studies on cultures and societies.
